Messier 16 - The Eagle Nebula

m16n2v1

It’s been 4 years since I visited this striking nebula and cluster. It is at its best position during the monsoon rainy season here is southern Arizona, so getting a lot of time on it is difficult. This is 5 hours of exposure, taken July 19 and 21, 2014. You will get a better view by clicking on the image and seeing it in a larger format. This session was cut short by clouds and some reduced sky conditions. The nebula was made famous in a stunning false color image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. The ‘eagle' structure is much larger in the Hubble image.
